Conversations, electronic & otherwise…

After my initial surprise recently at AI talking to another AI when making hotel reservations, I have delved into it more and more. It’s actually a fascinating topic, one I think is a huge breakthrough in technology, but one that also holds an epic potential pitfall in society. With the explosion of technology, apps, FB, Instagram, and TikTok, as well as many other ways to stay in touch, I wonder what are we teaching our kids & grandkids?

Yesterday a friend sent me pictures of a “new” variety of daylily. I have daylilies in my garden every spring and summer, several of which are new & beautiful varieties just recently developed. Creating new hybrid roses, daylilies, and plants of almost endless varieties has been on-going for decades now. The idea is to universally create (hybridize) stronger/better plants – roses without thorns, etc. The problem arises that in developing roses without thorns, bigger and longer blooming plants, you lose the scent of the roses. As beautiful as the roses are at Costco, they don’t actually smell like roses anymore.

Finally, it turns out the “new” variety of daylily was AI-generated. Meh. Mine are not.
