Challenge accepted…
As noted from late night angst and often frustrated outbursts from my studio space, this project was a challenge! There are not many quilts I have made with writing on them, but I’ve used letter stencils and ink, as well as Posco pens and Sharpie Fabric markers with some success. This work, however, has been a completely different animal… like comparing navel oranges to antique Grandfather clocks.
It’s unusual for me to use pastels, but they also figured prominently in this work. What it boils down to is wanting to quite deliberately state, “I am Listening” and filling it with parts of actual conversations. Once painted and the organza stitched on, many of the actual words were obscured, hence the cutting out of the letters after statin stitching around them. I am not going to lie, but taking scissors to the interior of the letters was daunting and tedious, but worth it!
