A New Challenge update…

It all begins with an idea. Recently, I started a new project using words and the message ‘I am listening’ and even though the piece is fairly small, it really has been a challenge.   When I laid the plastic stencils out over all the words, strips sewn together, written on, then over-painted…I liked it but thought the silk organza cut out over the letters would make the message really pop. Wouldn’t it? As with most things in this discovery process, this worked in theory much better than in practice.

Each of the organza colors, from white and cream, to light green and light blue, made the words too muddy to read. Sewing and trying to figure out what would read better made my brain hurt! I settled on a light gold organza and will soldier on. I like challenges, but this has been a hard puzzle to solve – taking it from what I imagine it will look like to what it actually becomes.
