Viewer Mail…

I recently received a really nice email from Lisa in Kansas City, and she wanted to know 2 things: Why work in a series, and where’s a pic of all 9 Jazz quilts? First, I very often work in series, as I might start with an idea or concept and make a piece of art. Then, using the same concept, or some aspect of it, I push the idea, I explore the idea, I develop the idea… and make more work. This Jazz series began when I started putting scraps together which were piled in a large plastic bin thrown together when my studio flooded. I liked the 1st one, and began listening to more and more jazz. My mother’s favorite music was jazz, and while I had my own favorites, I worked to expand who I was listening to. If you stroll into my studio, you will often hear jazz in the background…or full blast, depending on how it’s going.

Next, I don’t have a picture of all 9 quilts, as they don’t all fit on my current design wall. I would need 12’ ceilings, which don’t exist at my house. So I’ve taken a picture of the 1st 6 quilts, mostly done. One is quilted (see last post) but no binding yet, and the 6th quilt is ready to be sandwiched and quilted.

Thanks for the lovely email, and I’ll send another pic when the 1st 6 Jazz Quilts are completed, and the last 3 can be put up on the board. Cheers!

Beth
